NCT Certification
What is NCT Certification?
The National Air Filtration Association first introduced NCT (NAFA Certified Technician) to it’s members in January 1999 in an effort to add more credibility and professionalism to the air filtration industry. Since then, the NCT program has continued to grow far beyond NAFA members as facility managers and building owners across North America see the value in providing education and training for those involved in the installation, operation, and maintenance of air filtration systems.
Applicants will complete an online application for certification and will write an exam on the material covered in the NAFA Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Air Filtration Systems (IOM Manual) and classroom tutorial.
Examinations are administered by a designated NAFA Certified Air Filter Specialist (CAFS) and consist of answering 100 questions (40 multiple choice, 60 true/false) in a 2-hour, open-book exam.
At BGE we have several CAFSs who can administer and provide training for applicants and groups of any size.
Who Should Take the NCT Exam?
Any employee of any company that is engaged in the installation, operation, and maintenance of air filtration systems is eligible to become a NAFA Certified Technician (NCT).
The training and the exam provide a fundamental framework for understanding the principles of AHUs and the proper techniques that are required when it comes to determining filter life, pressure drop, filter replacement schedule, pre and final filters, gauges, HEPA filters, as well as safety considerations and disposal.
Companies see value in the certification as a training program for new or junior employees, those that don’t have their class 4 or 5 power engineering certificates/designations, and anyone responsible for replacing filters and dealing with AHUs in their facilities. The principles learned through the training also provide a solid foundation for the maintenance team to work safely in their environments.
Benefits
The special recognition of the NCT certification demonstrates a high level of proficiency in the air filtration industry and allows for the public promotion of your qualified service technicians.
The points earned from NCT certification also count towards NAFA Clean Air Award Nominations.
NCT recipients may use the designation on letterhead, business cards, and other forms of address and promotion. Two cloth patches are also awarded when the exam is passed. These patches can be displayed on clothing and uniforms.
How Do I Start The Process?
We are happy to customize a package based on your company’s needs. Basic packages start with an in-class review session, administration of the exam by a BGE-certified CAFS, and an individual copy of the NAFA manual: Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Air Filtration Systems. Additional training, large group sessions, and annual renewals can also be arranged. Please fill out the form below or contact your local BGE Clean Air Advisor for more details.
